RoHS Directive (European RoHS Directive)
What is the RoHS Directive?
This directive restricts the use of specific hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment marketed within the EU.
The RoHS Directive (2002/95/EC) came into force in July 2006, targeting 6 substances.
Currently, it has been revised to 2011/65/EU and (EU) 2015/863 (commonly known as RoHS2), and 10 substances are covered.
Coverage
Electrical and electronic equipment for use in a voltage range not exceeding 1,000 V alternating current (AC) and 1,500 V direct current (DC), but the following condition is added. "the equipment that relies on electric currents or electromagnetic fields for its proper operation, or that generates, conducts, or measures electromagnetic fields.
RoHS1 covered 10 categories, but RoHS2 added an 11th category as "other electrical and electronic equipment."
In addition, the application start date has been set for categories 8 and 9, which were not covered by RoHS1, and all 11 categories that have been set are covered.
