UL standard

What is UL Standard?

It is an American organization established by the Fire Insurance Industry Association, which creates and certifies functional and safety standards for materials, parts, and equipment.
Passing these tests allows use of the UL Certification Mark.

What is UL94?

It is a standard for combustibility of plastic materials (an established standard of a US private testing organization), and the ranking for self-extinguishing materials is divided into 5VA, 5VB, V-0, V-1, V-2, and HB.
5VA is the most flame retardant, 5VB → V-0 → V-1 → V-2 → HB.

UL94 V-0 to V-2 criteria

(20mm vertical burning test (IEC60695-11-10 B method, ASTM D3801))
A test piece (125±5×13±0.5×t mm) was mounted vertically on a clamp, two 10-second indirect flames were applied with a 20 mm flame, and V-0, V-1, V-2, Not judgment is made.

UL94 HB acceptance criteria

[Horizontal burning test (IEC60695-11-10 A method, ASTM D635)]
A test piece (125±5×13±0.5×t mm) is held horizontally, a 20-mm flame is applied for 30 seconds, and the burning rate is judged by the 75-mm mark distance.

75 mm/mm or less

*) Even if it self-extinguishes in front of the 1st and 2nd marked lines, the test is passed.

*) Passing a thickness of 3.0 (-0.0, +0.2) mm will automatically allow HB for a thickness of 1.5 to 13.0 mm.

*) If tested and passed at a thickness of less than 3.0mm, HB certification is granted from the passed thickness to 2.99mm.
